It is not a news anymore but once again Australians have launched denial of racism attack.

Robin William’s observations about Australians were irrefutable and scrupulous. I consider myself Australian, have an Australian passport but yet I get this question , when are you going back, mate? Any comment, remark or even abuse followed by “maayt” (mate) is considered friendly. Often followed by, I am just having a go at ya Maayt then followed by series of blatant racist remarks.

Do not worry too much Australians, racism is in good hands. It is not going to die anytime soon, Maayt.

Confidence is a fragile human emotion that can be shattered with some little information. At times knowledge is not really power. What would have happened if this lady, oblivious to the event that happened behind her back, had knowledge of it. Moral of the story is never wear Addidas again but thankyou Addidas for giving me something to write about.

I do not have something against just Addidas. I am thankful to Nike for designing Venus William’s outfit in Australian Open 2010. Women tennis was never that interesting before, I would like all the ladies in tennis world to use this ‘D String’.

I am not a huge movie buff, but I like to see anything worth watching, anything epic. Movies are made to be seen, to have a good time a few would provocate thoughts. You have to know the characters and acters to prove smartness in quiz shows. If you do not know the movies names then you must be living under a stone as per say. According to a definition in an Encyclopedia the elements of cinemat gives motion picture a unversal power of communication. I think the ‘Universal’ in that sentence is referring to the movie studio.

Sometimes the sheer ignorance portrayed in movies astonish me. Hollywood movies categorise this small world into Americans and Non-Americans.

‘The Man’ Anthony Mundine

I heard the name Anthony Mundine in 2001 after a comment he made about American foreign policy. In reaction of his display of ‘freedom of speech’, he was stripped of his World Boxing Council (WBC) ranking. Australian Media was on front foot to discredit Mundine’s naive remarks. His conversion to Islam might have fuelled the whole situation.

Australian’s dislike of Anthony Mundine surprised me at first. I am being cautious and not using word ‘hate’ here. In 2003 Mundine fought for WBA middle weight championship, I happened to see that bout in a small town pub/TAB. I was my second week at work in the pub as a glassy (glass picker). Pub was full to the tip with Caucasian Aussies. It was a fight between an African American boxer ‘Antwun Echols’ and Aboriginal (Original Australian).

Because of my working committments I was unable to see the complete fight but it was a good fight. Crowd was very loud under the influence of alcohol, yelling obscenities at big TV screens. On a unanimous decision Original Australian won the bout, crowd went quiet. Guys and girls with long faces, started to leave the pub, others decided to keep me busy.

I have seen his high profiled fight against fellow but white Australian, Danny Green and the situation was not much different either. Anthony Mundine has raised racism question a few times but I do not think Caucasians are racist towards Anthony Mundine. I wish we could apply maths in all the social aspects of our lives, the life would be lot less complicated then. I have asked the reason of disliking ‘the man’ from a number of people. The best answer so far I got is; you either love him or hate him, he has got a big mouth and has no respect for his opponents. On these basis ‘Ricky Ponting’ should be the most disliked sportsman in Australia, definitely not Mundine.

Anthony Mundine nick name ‘The man’ should be given the respect and status that he deserves. He is an Australian Icon and real hero who have excelled as the best player in local Australian sport of Rugby League and world renowned in Boxing.

Brisbane, Australia

Bright sunny days and beautiful starry nights are Brisbane’s main attraction. Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and state capital of Queensland. I first visited Brisbane in 2001 since then there have been a number of changes in this city. My first impression of Brisbane was of a sleepy town, a big county town. Brisbane is becoming multicultural with the time, it still have a lot of catching up to do. Over all it is a beautiful city to visit and there are heaps to do and see. I have only covered Brisbane City in this blog.

Brisbane CBD

if you are willing to walk around Central Business District of Brisbane can be covered in couple of hours. There isn’t much to see in the city area unless you would like to go for shopping. Queen street in the city is the shopping hub, shopes in the city are pretty much standard Australian brands that you can fiind in any shopping centre. My favorite walking path in Brisbane starts from story bridge to botanical garden. Brisbane river flows through the city giving a very nice outlook to the city, even though it’s not utilised to it’s potential. There are several cruise options available, I liked day ticket as it is fast and cheaper.

Sight seeing

Southbank is just across the bridge from CBD, known for its beach like swimming pool. Southbank gets very busy and weekends and public holidays. You can find very nice restaurants in southbank and iMax cinema is for movie goers. Stroll around southbank if you got time, five minutes walk will take you to Westend of Brisbane.
Westend is the cultural capital of Brisbane. There are few very interesting restaurants on Boundary and Melbourne streets.
If you really like to see Brisbane from top you can climb upto story bridge . If you are planning to visit Sydney then try ‘Harbour Bridge Climb’ instead (see my Sydney blog).
Only a few kilometers away from city is Mount Coot-tha scenic lookout which presents beautiful view of the city any time of the day or night.
Koala Sanctuary is about twenty minutes away from the city and it is a beautiful place if you like animals and want to hug a Koala. Lone Pine sanctuary is for Kangaroo lovers.

Night life

Brisbane has very quiet week nights but on weekend it becomes Brisvegas, that’s what Aussies call it. Fortitude Valley is the most happening place at nights. There are few clubs/pubs in city as well for older crowd.

Mask look so cool! or may be it’s sick..

I was on train, on my way to a friends place when the guy sitting opposite to me started coughing, displaying signs of swine flu. I only googled the symptoms last night. I could even feel the viruses crawling on my skin, I wanted to run away from that ‘dog bark cough’. I tried to stop breathing, thought that might help. While I was busy in my attempt to stop breathing, obnoxious dog bark cough guy seemed kept on his fireworks towards me. I jumped out of the train next stop, by chance that was the right stop.

Where can I get that Mask? I just want to try it because it looks cool. People with the masks seems like they are on a mission. Is it me getting paranoid or that’s exactly what media wanted.

Former Telstra’s CEO Sol Trujillo has had the last laugh at Australian media. Throughout his tenure in down under Australian media has given Trujillo a hard time mostly because of his Hispanic background. This time Trujillo got media attention not for his hefty pay cheque or implementation of three networks. In a recent interview with BBC, Trujillo apparently has offended Australians by pointing out a bare fact.

Newspapers and TV channels were quick to comment on Trujillo’s remarks by usual denials and even publishing stories of few ethnic CEOs .Trujillo was at the top of the food chain in this continent, he was one of the highest paid CEO in Australia. Media should realise its responsibility and should hire better and fire Bogans.

Trujillo has always been referred by his Hispanic background in the media and finally in a blatant racist remark by Kevin O seven .You do not have to go far to see the reality of Trujillo’s comments. Have you ever wonder why all these qualified ethnic people are driving cabs?

Here it is, the easiest quickest way to stardom Chk Chk Boom, Just like that. You will get to the front pages of newspapers. You can take whatever route you like. Thing that makes me go hmm is the Australians love affair with Bogans. The sheer obliviousness of media, perhaps I should appreciate their effort for making up ‘news’.

Following video has created a new star in Australia.

This follows the usual declaration afterwards in a TV interview (she got a tv interview) that bogan girl declared that she is not racist. Just another case of “I am not racist but…”
